You may be wondering what Gene was wondering, “Is my website worth it?” My answer to his question was, “What were you hoping your website will do for you?”
Gene said, “Get new clients, of course.”
Here’s my philosophy about marketing: every dollar you invest in marketing should be held accountable. If it works, do more of it. If it doesn’t, stop doing it.
Our Marketing MRI proved what I know from experience: you will NOT get affluent clients through your website
Don’t believe me? Check your results. How many affluent clients did you get last year from the web? Average revenue?
The Marketing MRI showed Gene that he had spent tens of thousands on the website and SEO and all that it produced was a few nibbles. No affluent clients.
Try this. Have your web person put Google Analytics and give you a weekly report.
Why doesn’t the produce affluent clients?
Reason #1: Affluent prospects don’t go to the web and search for advisors.
Reason #2: Even if they did, it would take you way too much money to dominate the search.
In 1998, Google indexed around 28 Million web pages. In 2000, that number soared to 1 Billion. In 2008, Google proudly sounded the trumpet on 1 trillion web pages.
1 Thousand seconds = 15 minutes
1 Million seconds = 2 weeks
1 Billion seconds = 32 years
1 Trillion seconds = 32,000 years
Your website is to the internet like 1 second is to 32,000 years!
Your website is your online brochure. That’s it. Make it elegant and professional.
The only thing that prospects may search for is your name.
Google your name and see what comes up. You want to have the first 3 entries be you.Something like 80 percent of the people never look past the first 3 organic search returns.
