In the video below, Scott Keffer explains what ‘Personal Launch’ looks like on a graph at the Double Your Affluent Clients Bootcamp event. Before you watch the video, what do you think personal growth would visually look like if you charted it?
You might be surprised…
Personal Launch
(Below is the transcript from the video.)
Let’s talk about personal launch. That’s exactly the line that I drew when I started to think about, what does personal launch look like? I didn’t realize that’s an American line, because in America, it’s always up it’s never down, but then I started to study personal launch and here’s what actually happens, and it’s very different from that.
Here’s what personal launch looks like. You start here, you accelerate your progress until it gets to a point where it actually shepherd hooks. Then, it kind of plateaus, a little up and a little down, a little up and little down.
So I thought about that. How many have seen a rocket launch? Does the rocket go up forever? Oh that’s interesting, no of course it doesn’t, right? What’s the problem? It runs out of fuel.
Let’s see, physically, if you study physics here’s what’s cool, physics and math and stuff are built around real truth rather than other stuff. So if you study you realize it can’t actually go up forever, that’s a nice thought. It’s an actual interesting promise. It’s kind of like eat chocolate cake and lose weight. I really want to believe that, I just have tried it and it doesn’t really work. Am I right? It just doesn’t work.
This doesn’t work. This is physically impossible. It’s also personally impossible. So this shepherd hook … There’s a point that things get a little worse than they were at times, and there’s the plateau and this is where the game changes, because you cannot schedule personal launch. All you can do is load up on the plateau. That means I have to continue to fuel up, which is do what’s good and right during that time. And if I do that, I’ve got to continue to fuel in the plateau by doing what’s right. And then what happens, is out of nowhere, and you cannot schedule this, all of a sudden you’ve got the next level. And then it’s same thing, this is in sport, hobby, business, any skill.
Now here’s the cool thing, let’s go back. Where do people bolt? Right there. They either bolt right here, where it starts to get worse. So if you’re learning skills, learning presenting a seminar, if you’re learning sales skills, or you’re learning prospecting marketing, anything in a business it means you’re going to have some acceleration. Then you’re going to get worse, and right here is where the rubber meets the road. Do I keep doing the things that are right to do?
So when we were in the fall of 2004, we’re not only broke we’re $463,000.00 in debt, $463,459.15 to be exact. We’re in debt, and I had a friend of mine who had been president of a bank, the bank was consolidated so he got a nice buyout package. So I said, “Hey Todd, I’ll hire you to come in and help me sort of get a handle on the business.” Because my partner was running the inside of the business, I was running the outside.
So he came in, he said, “You know, this thing’s a mess.” Well yeah, I knew that. That’s why we had the disconnection. So he said, “I’m going to help you do that.”
So he goes through the books and he said, “Have you looked at these?” I said, “No, I don’t really look at those, but I probably should.” He said, “Here’s what you should do. Stop all this, what’s all this money here?”, “That’s marketing.” “And what’s all this?” “That’s coaching.” He said, “These are really big numbers.” I said, “That would be true.” He said, “You need to stop this, and stop that.” I said, “Oh, okay.” “Anything else?”
I said, “If I do that, we’re in dire situation here, if I do that I will die quickly.” Clear to me, if I stop this I will die. We had vigorous discussions, and of course it was our money so we continued doing that and fortunately this, I’d studied this, this is the law of personal launch. Because right in here on the plateau this is where success is, and it requires courage.
It means, investing marketing when the marketing doesn’t seem to be working, or when you go through a dry spell, or when I hit a time when I’m in a slump. So that’s where the rubber meets the road.
So personal launch, shepherd hook, plateau, shepherd hook, plateau, and it’s what happens in the plateau. Everybody loves the ride up, that’s fun for everybody. I don’t need to be encouraged when all is going well.
Does that make sense? Personal launch.
