If you want to 10X your business (and I hope you do), it’s not a better tip… but a better STRATEGY.
Chinese General Sun Tzu, The Art Of War, said, “Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat.” He described the difference: “All the men can see the tactics I use to conquer, but what none can see is the strategy out of which great victory is evolved.”
Oftentimes, your failure is not the result of poor tactics, or even poor willpower, but it’s the lack of better strategy.
Why are tactics so alluring?
It’s our natural tendency to buy the promise of… “get rich without risk and work,” or “lose weight without diet and exercise,” or “grow your business without investing money or taking a risk.”
It’s the allure of the “magic bullet.”
A magic bullet is a medicine that targets a specific issue and works really, really well. In 1906, Paul Ehrlich used the German word zauberkugel to describe natural antibodies that seem to fly to their specific objectives. In the late 1930’s, newspapers translated zauberkugel into English as magic bullet.
In a similar fashion, “silver bullet” was the name given to a magical solution to a persistant problem. Silver bullets are the only ammunition that can kill a werewolf. In 1933, The Lone Ranger, who roamed the Old West with his faithful friend, Tonto, debuted on American radio. He shot silver bullets and rode on a horse named… Silver.
Most financial advisors have been trained (unknowingly) to be on the lookout for the next magic bullet… and the industry (FMO’s, B/D’s, insurance companies) is happy to indulge the fantasy by putting advisors (the ones who sell a ton) and their “tactics” on display, perpetuating the lie that their magic seminar… magic invitation… magic words… will make all the difference for you.
