I want to share with you my super simple, business success secret.
I learned it from my dad… kind of.
My dad and I were never close growing up.
He was Karl Keffer, III. My older brother was Karl Keffer, IV.
I always wanted to be like my older brother growing up: he was popular, a great athlete, and easily made friends. Everything I wanted to be and wasn’t.
I was a shy, introverted “geek.”
My dad was an executive for a major steel company. His career was his top priority, so he was rarely around.
I remember him talking about W. Edwards Deming.
Deming was largely ignored in the United States but found a listening ear in another nation across the ocean.
Guess where? Japan.
Growing up, when you saw the words “Made in Japan,” it meant cheap junk, because that’s what it was.
How about today?
What is Japan known for? Quality.
Deming had a very large role in that rehabilitation, as did the Japanese who were willing to listen and be mentored. Deming taught them how to produce consistent quality through repeatable and improvable processes.
Deming would say, “If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.”
Once I understood the power of PROCESS, one by one, I invested in creating processes.
First, stacking my credibility (the advisor with the most credibility WINS).
Then, attracting affluent prospects (the advisor who controls their new prospect flow can DOUBLE… and DOUBLE… again and again).
Then, converting prospects into clients (the advisor who consistently converts prospects into clients cannot be stopped).
I tweaked, tested and relentlessly improved each process until it ran smoothly… and produced consistent RESULTS.
Deming taught me to do the HARD work on fine-tuning each process. When you do that, the result is practically guaranteed.
“We should work on our process, not the outcome of our processes,” said Deming.
He also said, “It’s not enough to do your best; you must know what to do and then do your best.”
It’s like having a “Tesla business.”
